PROFESSIONAL OUTLOOK

"I am working on learning how to be whole and free within myself,
to acknowledge my brokenness, manifest my own happiness,
and succeed and fail gracefully."

I approach each challenge with an insatiable hunger to learn and grow not only as a coder and writer, but also as a grounded yet creative individual.  I aspire to integrate my passion for psychology and the brain with my desire to code, and I hope to offer a strong people focus and enthusiasm for collaboration to all my future endeavors.

PERSONAL PROFILE

Get To Know Me

Currently a third-year computer science major at Georgia Tech, based originally in Miami, my days consist of Java, app development, website building, writing for online publications, and research. My interests outside of my major arrive from a more creative side of my personality, as they involve writing, marketing through social media, and working with Georgia Tech's Mental Health Student Board Coalition to end the stigma surrounding mental illness.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES

CYCLE ATLANTA, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INTERN

August 2017 - Present

I joined a GT research team aimed to advance the biking community of Atlanta. We use the MATRIX Creator platform to implement accelerometer, gyroscope, facial recognition features, and microphone array to collect data on the conditions around the biker and to analyze his/her stress levels.

COLLABORATOR/INTERN, ABMOBILIZE/MATRIX LABS

Miami Beach, Florida
May 2017 - August 2017

MATRIX Labs focuses on the physical world in direction to improve technology across all aspects.  The matrix is the optimization of customizability - I spend my time developing apps incorporating the array of sensors made available on the hardware.  The matrix can produce real-time analysis to study human interaction in a very cohesive way but can also assist in day-to-day functions by offering information on weather or stocks. I also am part of the marketing efforts to create a larger online presence.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT, PERCEPTION AND NEUROIMAGING LAB

School of Psychology, Georgia Institute of Technology
January 2016 - October 2017

As part of the PNM team, I help run visual perceptual learning experiments.  My job is to market the study to pique people's interests and thus their participation. To run the experiments, I use fMRI for active brain imaging and TMS to stimulate particular areas of the brain. Also, over the past year and a half, I have gained experience in MATLAB and MRI analysis specified programs.  The results of the three studies I helped collect and analyze data for are currently being written in manuscripts for publish.

JJ VANCE HUMAN GENOMICS COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCE INTERNSHIP, HUSSMAN INSTITUTE OF HUMAN GENOMICS

Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami
May 2014 - August 2014

My experience at this paid internship really revealed to me my interest in both computer science and psychology and the possibilities offered in both fields to overlap the two subjects.  I focused on the computational science aspect of a research study, performing statistical analysis using SAS, Plink, and R to calculate the significance of genetic variants in relation to the association between epilepsy and migraines in people with ASD.  The results of this study were included in a manuscript.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

MENTAL HEALTH STUDENT BOARD COALITION

January 2017 - Present

Mental Health Student Coalition is a community organization striving to create a more positive, healthier Georgia Tech by equipping students of the community with  the knowledge and the resources to take care of themselves and each other. We are trying to reduce the stigma around mental illness by offering support to the community through our pages. As part of the External Relations team, I update the social media of the club, and our plans for the year are to create a website.

SPOON UNIVERSITY WRITER/EDITOR

March 2017 - Present

As part of the Georgia Tech chapter, I write mostly lifestyle articles that I hope will influence readers to make more mentally beneficial and stimulating decisions.  I tend to focus on wellbeing and the importance of staying honest to yourself while in the college environment. I hope to explore more of a broader approach to lifestyle by possible writing about nutrition and physical health, as that plays a larger role than most would think in mental wellbeing.

PUSH ORGANIZATION MARKETING INTERN

August 2017 - Present

Our mission is to motivate, inspire, and connect aspiring engineers and create a culture where women are equally represented in the STEM workforce. I focus on outreach, connecting girls to strong STEM female/minority mentors, and I also am part of the Kickstarter campaigns to gain more financial backing.
